Last week, students received a green paper with a list of Geek and Latin roots that they will see on the Reading MAP test. Please have your child keep this in his/her Reading folder, study at home, and also remember to have this sheet in class every day as well.
This is your child’s yellow homework assignment sheet for Rdg./Lang. Arts/Writing- Lesson 11. Be sure your child has this sheet in his/her Rdg. folder every day. Ea. Mon., students will receive this yellow assignment sheet outlining all of the hw assignments for the week as well as important notes for parents. Please be sure your child completes the correct hw ea. day, that you check all papers, & sign ea. assignment so that I will know that you have checked your child’s work.
Also, try to listen to your child read ea. night, for at least 20 min. Ask questions about what was read to reinforce comprehension skills.
Remember the Reading Home Letter is sent home ea. Mon. to keep you abreast of what skills are being covered in Rdg. & what you should be working on at home as well as suggestions for books to pick up at the library for that week.
This week we will be studying Spelling words that have the au, aw, al & o sound.
Our Comprehension skill this week is sequence of events.
Our Comprehension strategy this week is “question”- we will ask questions before you read, after you read, & while you read.
In Grammar, we will be working on plural nouns as a review. Regular plurals are made by adding –s to your noun (book-books/student-students); nouns that end with s, ss, sh, ch, x, or z must have –es added to them to make them plural (box-boxes/class-classes/bush-bushes); nouns that end with a vowel and y, add –s (play-plays/boy-boys); nouns that end with a consonant and y, change the y to i and add –es (story-stories/cherry-cherries) We have some irregular plurals that do not follow any specific rules such as: deer-deer/tooth-teeth. THERE ARE PLURAL NOUN WORKSHEETS on the website for extra practice.
Vocabulary Strategy: suffixes- less, y, ful, ous (careless/breezy/careful/joyous)
In Writing, we will be working on cause & effect writing-informative writing.
Weekly Reminders: Late Work: lowered 1 letter grade.
Words that are capitalized on Spelling tests & Spelling assignments that are NOT proper nouns are marked incorrect.
