AT HOME LEARNING 5/3 through 5/29/20 (PART #2)

 

MONDAY-May 4, 2020 laugh

  • Complete your XtraMath lesson. It will really help you master your facts!!! Be sure you continue to work on your lesson until you reach the "You're done" section. Many students are not completing their XtraMath Lesson-please be sure to do this every day. frown Ms. Parks is checking your progress on XtraMath. 
  • Reading: Thank you for working so hard on your Lesson 21 Reading test!! I have already entered your grades into Aspen. Today we are starting Lesson 22. Please look at your Vocab. words in your Journeys book..pp. 234-235. We will be studying the words today and talking about the definitions. We will be writing our Vocabulary words in our Reading spirals today in class and discussing compare and contrast on p. 236. Students need their Journeys text, Reading spiral, and their Reader's Notebook p. 115 (so we can review our Spelling words on this page.) For homework  complete your Vocabulary cards for each word. Be sure to include the part of speech for each word. Parents please email me a picture of the completed cards just in a little group showing a few cards. 
  • Math (ch. 10)  pp. 579-581 - We are discussing Time Intervals and how to find the starting and ending time when we know the elapsed time. For homework students should complete a schedule showing the time they wake up, their activities and meals throughout the day, their lessons, homework, and the time they go to bed. This schedule should be for any week day..please name the day at the top of the schedule; students should also calculate the elapsed time from the beginning of their day to the end of their day and write this on their schedule as well; parents email the hw to me.
  • Complete one Reading A-Z story. Read one of the stories assigned and be sure to answer the questions that follow the story.
  • Work on Fast Forword for Mrs. Ahsan...she is checking!!! yes I reviewed the FF report for the past two weeks and students who have been working consistently on FF, received points in Gradebook.
  • Continue to work on IXL Math skills3rd grade T (TIME) for 30 min.
  • Continue to work on Coding: 30 min. Be sure to watch the videos.
  • Please locate Ms. Rowe's Library activities and Library Resources-right above the virtual field trips on the Part 1 At Home Learning Page. Complete a Library activity for today and please email Ms. Rowe to let her know what you did today. Also, this weekend,  we were provided a list of all of the resources/websites and passwords for all of the links and pages connected to the library. I am not able to post that list here as our website is a public page and is not password protected. So I posted the list of library resources and passwords in our Google Classroom. 
  • Do some ST MATH later...1 hour. Many students are not completing their ST Math and I have started entering points for ST math percentages. I checked ST Math this week and students with increased percentages..received points in Gradebook.
  • Today I am assigning a book report project. I would like for students to choose any book and instead of a traditional book report, they should complete a poster or 3D project showing the story structure of the book...the characters, setting, and plot. The book report can be anything 3 dimensional illustrating the story structure. Be creative!!!!! I can't wait to see your creations! These are due this Thursday, 5/7.  We will have book report presentations on Thursday for our second hour, instead of Science. Example projects:

  • ReadingWe're on Lesson 22. Let's read about "Animal Migration" on p. 237. This is our preview for the story. Then we will begin our story by first discussing the genre-"informational text". What is informational text? What are the characteristics of informational text? After reading a few pages of our story, we will discuss pages 103-104 in our Reader's Notebook. These pages will be for homework; parents please email these pages to me. Students need their Journeys text and their Reader's Notebook. Reading will end today about 10:55.
  • Math:  Math will begin at 11:30 today. We will continue with time intervals and complete Math p. 582. We will also  allow time for students to share their schedules that they made for homework last night. So students need their schedules from yesterday's Math hw, their Math text, and the Math spirals. The homework tonight will be to complete Math text pp. 583-584. Parents please send in homework.

  • Take another VIRTUAL FIELD TRIP!!! Use the links on the At Home Learning Page Part 1. There are some amazing places to see.
  • Normally we had P.E.every Tuesday and Wednesday. Please click  the facility classes' activity link on the At Home Learning Page Part 1. The link is highlighted in sky blue and listed right above our Virtual Field Trips. The facility teachers should be updating their activities every week for the students. Look for an activity from Ms. Howe or email Ms. Howe to ask her what you should be working on this week for Physical Education.

  • Reading: Today students need their Journeys text and their Reading spiral.  They will also need the handouts in this lesson. We will do a quick review of Point of View-1st person and 3rd person. Then we will introduce 2nd person Point of View.  The handouts are study sheets so students should keep them in their Reading folders; we will review them today.
  • These are the sheets for today: POINT OF VIEW-1st,2nd,3rd person handouts We will also review the discussion questions on p. 258 of the Journeys text as well. For homework, students should work on their book report projects.

  • Social Studies: Today in Social Studies we will still be working on the pages from last week..pp.4-5 in the US Geography Social Studies magazine-pp. 4 and 5. Parents please be sure your children have these;  SS p. 4  and  SS p. 5; we will be using these in class today and students need their Social Studies spirals.
  • BOOK REPORT PRESENTATIONS!!! YAY!!!
  • Work on ST Math for 1 hour.

MONDAY-May 11, 2020 laugh-Mr. Fisher will be hosting a tutorial at 10:00am today on Google Classroom for about 30 min. for parents.

  • Reading:  Today we will be continuing our story on Migration-Lesson 22, starting with Journeys text p. 248-"The Whales".  We will have a Spelling Test on Thursday before Science and Social Studies on the Spelling words for this lesson. The Spelling words are on Reader's Notebook p. 115 (so we will review our Spelling words on this page.) We will also review Reader's Notebook pp. 105-106 which will be for homework tonight. Parent please upload these pages to Google Classroom.  Students need their name on their assignments. Also we will be taking our Lesson 22 Reading Test Friday 5/15-5/17/20. Some students have not yet taken the Lesson 21 Reading Test. Parents please remember that grades are being entered into Aspen. Teachers will be submitting 4th qtr. Progress Reports on May 20. I will need all 4th qtr. work by Tuesday, May 19, 2020, 5pm. I cannot take work after this time because I have to check it all and enter it into Aspen. I will be including your child's progress on Fast Forword, for Reading A-Z, for XtraMath, ST Math, and IXL.

  • Reading: Today we will begin by completing a T-Chart to compare and contrast the migration of the locust with the migration of whales so students will need their Reading spiral in addition to the Journeys text. Then we will discuss pages 107-108 and 109-110 in our Reader's Notebook. These pages will be for homework; parents please upload these pages to Google Classroom.  Name on assignment please. Students need their Reader's Notebook. 
  • Math: We will first review the Math hw from last night-Math p. 588 and then complete Elapsed Time Worksheet #16 in class as classwork. Elapsed Time Worksheet #17 will be for homework tonight. Parents please upload both sheets to Google Classroom. Don't forget your name on your assignment.

For hw students should complete Sci. text pp. 125-126 in their Science spirals. Parents be sure your child isn't writing in the Science text. Upload just the Science hw and classwork today to Google Classroom.

  • Reading: Reading Lesson 22 test grades will be available when I score your short response answers on Think Central.  Today we are starting Lesson 23. Please look at your Vocab. words in your Journeys book..pp. 268-269. We will be studying the words today and talking about the definitions. We will be writing our Vocabulary words in our Reading spirals today in class and discussing sequencing on p. 270. Then we will watch a power point on bodies of water and landforms and students will make a list in class of all of the landforms that they can identify on a map that I will show them. Parents upload your child's list to Google Classroom. This is classwork. 
  • Science: Today we will read pp. 127-128 and we will complete the timeline on p. 128 in class. Parents be sure your child isn't writing in the Science text. Upload just the Science p. 128 to Google Classroom.
  • Work on ST Math for 1 hour.

  • Math: We are moving on to Lesson 10.7-Estimate and Measure Liquid Volume. How can you estimate and measure liquid volume in metric units? If possible, students should bring a 1 liter container to class with them on Tuesday. We will read and discuss Math text pp. 599-602 and pp. 603-604 will be for homework.

  • Reading: Today students need their Journeys text..we will discuss pp. 296-297 and we will review our sequence of events for the story so students need their notes from last week in the Reading spiral.  Then we will discuss Reader's Notebook pp. 123-124,  125-127-The Reader's NB pages will be for hw-please upload to Google Classroom. 
  • Math: In Math today,we will finish up pg. 602 that we started in class yesterday we will be working on Lesson 10.8 in the Math text. We will read and discuss Math text pp. 605-608 and pp. 609-610 will be for homework. Please upload the classwork p. 602 and the hw pp. 609-610 to Google Classroom. Students should bring a small paper clip or a grape to class if possible. We will also watch a Brainpop Jr. on Milliliters and Liters & Cups, Pints, Quarts, and Gallons.

THURSDAY-MAY 28, 2020-Spelling Test Today on Lesson 23/Reading Test starts tomorrow!

  • Social Studies: Today in Social Studies we will be working on pp.6-7 in the US Geography Magazine. 
  • Water Ways-Social Studies pp. 6-7 click here for the pages. We will be learning about "Water Ways!!"  Students need pages 6-7 and their Social Studies spirals as always to take notes. We will have a quiz next week on Water Ways!!
  • Science: Today we will read pp. 131-133. We're learning about Behavioral Adaptations. Students will be taking notes in their Science spirals and they should complete the question on p. 133 for hw. Answers must be in complete sentences and students must write at least 3 sentences in order to fully answer that question. Parents be sure your child isn't writing in the Science text. Upload  Science p. 133  to Google Classroom.

  • Also POD 210 has planned a VIRTUAL FIELD!!! YAY!!!!!! The third grade teachers wanted the entire pod to participate in a field trip, so we planned a trip to the San Diego Zoo!! Some of you may have already explored the link to the San Diego on our class website. This trip however, is a little different and extra-special because it is narrated by  all of the third grade teachers!!! You will hear all of our voices!! I will be sharing this field trip with you TODAY!! It will be posted here and I will email it to your parents. There is an activity to complete after the trip that will count as a grade. So this weekend, please join us on our POD 210 trip to San Diego Zoo!
  • And don't forget to take your Lesson 23 Reading Test-7 am Friday to 7pm Sunday-don't let it expire!!
